WEEKLY UPDATE WHAT HAPPENED AT THE BOARD

Following an approach by the SAJBD, the website Richmark Sentinel immediately removed an article by Rashid Kay denying the Holocaust. It was replaced by the Manager-Editor's comment: "Holocaust denial is not allowed on NewsTime. Send it to a Neo-Nazi magazine".

JEWISH 2010 PROJECT

Director Wendy Kahn and Communications Head Charisse Zeifert met with Saul Molobi and Grace Khoza concerning the marketing of the Board's Jewish2010 site in South African embassies abroad, and also met with the UK High Commission in Pretoria for the same purpose. Ms Pugh Jones and Mrs Kahn met with the US Consulate re the marketing of Jewish2010 and with Sugen Pillay at SA Tourism to promote it. Mrs Kahn participated in a talk show on ChaiFm re Jewish2010 and was interviewed by Haaretz on the subject as well.

The Board has been extensively involved in dealing with the various issues regarding the controversy over Judge Goldstone's decision not to attend his grandson's barmitzvah. This has involved clarifying the true facts of the situation in light of serious errors of fact that have been featured in the media reports on the matter. Amongst other things, an explanatory briefing was sent to the general Jewish community, a press statement released, Chairman Zev Krengel was widely interviewed in the local and international media and the Board participated in cross communal meetings to address the situation.

There was an excellent attendance at the presentation 'Threats to South Africa from International and Local Terrorism' by Anneli Botha of the Institute for Security Studies, hosted by the SAJBD Gauteng Council.

Gauteng Chairman Doron chaired a meeting with all the stakeholders (Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Suchard and representatives of the Sandton Shul, SAZF Chairman Avrom Krengel, Zev Krengel and Wendy Kahn) to discuss the way forward in the Goldstone Barmitzvah affair.

Wendy Kahn and Charisse Zeifert attended the Israeli Embassy's Yom Ha'atzmaut celebrations in Pretoria. Board representatives were further in attendance at the Yom Hazikaron and Yom Haatzmaut events.
