Irwin Cotler Public Address on Genocide Convention
International human rights and the Genocide Convention will come under scrutiny at a public Lecture at Wits University on Thursday 27 August at 6pm
at the Great Hall Wits University. Professor Irwin Cotler, former Canadian Justice Minister and world-renowned constitutional and comparative law scholar, will address issues around the effectiveness of international bodies in addressing human rights concerns.
Topical current events will be discussed. These include the indictment of Sudanese President Al-Bashir on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court, the danger of a nuclear, rights-violating Iran and the Goldstone report on the Gaza conflict. The event is being co-hosted by the Faculty of Humanities at Wits University, The Weekender and the SA Jewish Board of Deputies.
