The South African Jewish Board of Deputies is shocked and saddened by the loss of life and injuries caused in the violence at the Marikana mine in North West. We extend our deepest sympathies to the families who have lost loved ones. We call on all the parties involved to exercise restraint, refrain from provocative acts and to resolve this dispute in the South African spirit of dialogue and reconciliation. We further call for a thorough investigation into the causes of this senseless tragedy.
