At the 2011 National Conference of the SA Jewish Board of Deputies, Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe remarked on the resourcefulness, talent and success of South African Jewry in building enduring institutions. He appealed to the Board and the community to strengthen government’s efforts in addressing the challenges of education, skills development and job creation facing South Africa. Steven Gruzd presents the SAJBD’s submission on the POSIB in Parliament

Last week, public hearings into the Protection of State Information Bill (POSIB) took place under the auspices of the National Council of Provinces in Parliament. The SAJBD was one of only 18 organisations from 300 that were selected to make an oral submission, in addition to the written submission already made. Steven Gruzd, the Board’s Senior Researcher and Diplomatic iaison, made the submission on our behalf. [read more]

Jewish Community Proposes Changes to Info Bill in Parliament

The SAJBD submission on the Protection of State Information Bill, in which the Board makes a case for a “public interest defence”, cited several judgements from the European Court of Human Rights that support a public interest defence. It urged for such a defence to be included in the SA legislation.
